Staff Spotlight – Nicole Smith, Client Services Director

Nicole is highly organised, well-respected, and an encouraging people manager. With a wealth of experience from living, studying, and working abroad, Nicole brings a unique perspective to her role at Connected.

Nicole's journey into marketing began at the University of Wollongong, where she studied Commerce and Communications. While her first role was at a small marketing software company, a friend quickly head-hunted her into agency-land, where she found her passion for client services.

Marketing has taken Nicole across the globe. She completed a semester of her degree in Arizona, USA. She said it was a “crazy” experience and American college life was “just like the movies”. In London she worked for the charity ‘Action for Children’. She also moved to Singapore in 2020 but due to COVID was unable to work and instead volunteered with the ‘Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations’, ‘The Salvation Army’ and ‘Food from the Heart’.

After moving back to Australia, Nicole found her ‘home’ at Connected.

As Client Services Director, Nicole thrives on the dynamic nature of her role. She enjoys the variety of tasks and the opportunity to work with diverse personalities, ensuring that clients receive top-notch service and results. Her organisational skills, motivational spirit, and ability to stay on top of things are key to her success.

Nicole is excited about the future of the industry, particularly the potential of new technologies and AI. She acknowledges the challenges posed by tightening budgets in the current economy, but sees them as opportunities for innovation and growth.

Outside of work, Nicole is an avid camper, particularly fond of the beautiful south coast and enjoys overnight hiking with friends and family. A fitness enthusiast, she regularly attends F45 gym sessions and spends time working on her house, mostly weeding the garden!

1. Global Citizen: Nicole has lived in New Zealand, the US, the UK, Singapore, and Australia, giving her a unique global perspective.

2. Adventurous Camper: Nicole loves camping, from national parks to caravan parks, and enjoys overnight hiking.

3. Sport Enthusiast: Nicole is a fitness fan, attending F45 gym sessions, pilates, and is a member of the Connected OzTag team. Her claim to sporting fame is that she was once a ‘Ball Kid’ at an International tennis tournament in New Zealand.

4. Flautist: She has a hidden talent for playing the flute.

5. Travel Lover: Nicole is well-travelled. Her favourite trip (so far) is sailing around the Greek islands for her 30th birthday with friends.
