ChatGPT Ads Have Arrived in Australia. Are you a part of the AI Answer?

ChatGPT Ads are now available in Australia, giving brands a new way to reach consumers as they research products, services and solutions within AI conversations.


The format is simple: a small image, headline, short description and landing page URL displayed below relevant ChatGPT responses.



 We've been through the setup process ourselves, and while the opportunity is exciting, marketers should understand that this is still a very early-stage advertising platform.

 

What You Need to Know


Unlike Google or Meta, ChatGPT Ads currently offer limited creative formats, reporting and optimisation capabilities.

The creative itself is also highly constrained. While headlines can be up to 50 characters, longer headlines (>24 characters) may be truncated. Similarly while copy can be up to 100 characters, over 49 may be truncated.  



Business verification is also required before campaigns can run and may take several days to complete. You need Business Name, Business Number (ie ABN) and registered address. Any errors here and you’ll fail and the process will take another few days to complete. (We know from experience!)

 

Before You Spend a Dollar


Before running campaigns, ensure you have:

  • The ChatGPT conversion pixel installed

  • Lead and sales tracking configured

  • Campaigns tied to business outcomes – what does success look like?

 

Otherwise, you'll know how many people clicked your ads, but not much else!

 

Should You Test ChatGPT Ads?


Yes!


It is very early days and this is an opportunity to get a start on how AI platforms fit into your broader marketing strategy.


The platform is still immature. Reporting is evolving, creative options are limited and optimisation tools are basic (compared to Google Ads and Meta Ads).


However, early adopters can build valuable knowledge, establish measurement frameworks, discover early trends, and gain new data points for how AI-driven discovery influences the customer journey.


Ads are at the bottom of the answer. Is your brand IN the answer?


While ChatGPT Ads are worth testing, the larger strategic shift is that AI platforms are becoming a marketing channel in their own right.


Consumers are increasingly using AI tools to discover, evaluate and compare brands. Advertising is one way to participate in that ecosystem.


The most important question is whether your brand is visible when AI platforms recommend products, services and providers in your category.
